Mar ’98 – Mar ’01

Technical University of Vienna, Institute of Micro-engineering and Precision Mechanics (Institut für Feinwerktechnik, Technische Universität Wien). Employed as a post-doctorate researcher for the TMR HAFAM project (see Further Training).

  • Developed a system for computerised, semi-autonomous micro-handling and micro-assembly of MEMS, operating in the micron and submicron scales.
  • Scientific and management reporting for the EU project HAFAM (see Training).
  • Supporting the development of an Internet course on microtechnologies, managing my group and reporting to the coordinator (EU-IST project TRANSTEC).
  • Frequent travelling and laboratory visits to project partners.
  • Was teaching an introduction course on microtechnologies to university students (TUWIEN).

Apr ’96 – Feb ’98

Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL), Materials Group. Employed as a post-doctorate researcher.

  • Photonic band-gap Crystals (PCs or PBGs) for microwave and optical applications: Their fabrication and characterisation to operate as filters in the mm and µm wavelengths.
  • Growth and characterisation of Indium oxide thin films. Study of thin films produced by sputtering deposition such as InOx, ceramic materials.
  • Extensive use of microtechnologies (mainly the LiGA technique –Deep x-ray lithography) to fabricate 3D photonic band gap artificial crystals. Included working visits to main synchrotron laboratories in Europe.
  • Proposal, report writing and computer/technical support for my group.
  • Frequent travelling and laboratory visits and work to project partners.

Jan ‘96 – Mar ‘96

  • Setting-up a system for the characterisation and calibration of a high-resolution x-ray position sensitive detector which would be installed on a rapid acquisition x-ray diffraction system.
  • LARCO, Neo Kokkino, Greece: A private company for mining Latterites. Summer training in Field geology, cartography and geophysical measurements with magnetic methods.
  • IGME, Institute for Geology and Mineral Exploration, Athens, Greece: Summer training in computational methods and applications in Earth Sciences.
